The Urban Planning Student Association (UPSA), represents graduate and non-degree students pursuing a Master's degree or a Certificate in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The association began in August of 2011. During its first year the UPSA had seven members and by the second year membership had doubled. The organization encourages all College of Architecture, Construction, and Planning graduate and non-degree seeking students to participate in extra-curricular activities.
To promote and support academic understanding, professional development, and social interaction among planning students. We also coordinate lectures and programs which reflect the interests of planning students in hopes of introducing them to new ideas in the planning of cities and regions.
The organization has been actively involved with the San Antonio community with events such as the Team Better Block at Broadway and Jones renovation in April of 2012 and at Alamo Plaza location in August of 2012. The UPSA has worked in conjunction with Green Space Alliance with helping build community gardens. Members of the UPSA have attended the American Planning Association Texas Chapter Conferences in various cities since 2011. UPSA is also involved in events such as the American Planning Association Mixer, National Planning Conference 2019 and APA TX Legacy competitions.
